NASPE STANDARDS (National PE Standards)
In 1986, The National Association of Sport and Physical Education began the quest to identify the attributes of a physically educated person. The initial endeavor, the “Outcomes Project,” developed a definition of a physically educated person. This five-part definition was punctuated by action verbs : 1) has, 2) knows, 3) does, 4) is and 5) values which address the four learning domains in physical education. Physical educators who use the NASPE content standards increase the likelihood that their instructional processes will effectively support the goal of developing physically educated learners.
The first edition of the content standards was introduced to physical educators in 1995 in the book, Moving into the Future: National Standards for Physical Education. The initial content standards were refined and revised (from 7 standards to 6 standards) and published in 2004.
